NYSCATE 23 Annual Conference: Mission Possible

ROCHESTER, NY – The New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE)'s Annual Conference took place November 18-21, 2023 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center serving educators from around New York State.

Each year NYSCATE sponsors an annual statewide conference attended by 1,500 attendees and 150+ exhibitors showcasing exemplary education applications of technology. Half and full-day hands-on workshops take place on the first two days of the conference. Over 120 presentations by teachers and technology experts are given over the three day period. NYSCATE recruited keynote speakers who are respected experts in their fields. Post-conference the NYSCATE website provides links to educational resources and current issues as well as conference, seminar, and grant information. NYSCATE disseminates resource through email blasts and newsletters with up to the minute information on issues and regulations relating to technology and education from both state and federal governments.

ComSource is a member of the NYSCATE Corporate Council and a proud sponsor of this annual conference year after year. The NYSCATE Annual Conference gives our employees the opportunity to connect with current customers and build relationships with new contacts. It allows our engineers to use their creativity and showcase new technical solutions.

This year, ComSource Senior Systems Engineer, John Hoefer created a Unified Communications (UC) Demo Kit to showcase various technologies, including:

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager
  • Cisco Unity Connection (Voicemail)
  • Various Cisco IP Phones
  • Singlewire InformaCast Fusion
  • Various IP Speaker and notification devices

With this suite of hardware and software, our team was able to demonstrate many of the capabilities of these systems. Handling IP phones, hearing PA announcements, and seeing notifications for (simulated) 911 calls or lockdowns, are things that are hard to convey on paper or even in a video.

The UC Demo Kit facilitates a better understanding of configuration options, potential integrations, and allows for a more meaningful dialogue to help determine what is a best fit for each school district.
